Mouth ulcers are also called as canker sore, is a common condition develops inside your mouth due to injury (like, accidentally biting the inside of your cheek)

They can cause drinking, eating and speaking difficult

Mouth ulcers aren’t contagious and usually heals within one to two weeks.And if the mouth ulcers lasts for a long time without healing, then you should seek the advice of a doctor.


Causes of mouth Ulcers: 


  • Accidentally biting the inside of your cheek.
  • Injury from a toothbrush (such as slipping while brushing).
  • Constant rubbing against misaligned or sharp/broken teeth and  dentures or braces.
  • Irritation from strong mouthwash and toothpaste.
  • cuts or burns while eating or drinking hot food
  • Deficiency  of essential vitamins, especially B-12, zinc, folate, and iron
  • bacterial, viral, or fungal infections
  • feeling tired, stressed or anxious
  • hormonal changes during menstruation

Home remedies for mouth ulcers


Honey: 

Apply honey on the ulcer and keep it there for some time.As the ulcers are inside of your mouth, it is possible that you may swallow the applied honey along with your saliva. However, it is necessary that you keep applying honey to the ulcer spots after every few hours.

Honey is antimicrobial and helps in healing any open wound fast. In addition to helping reduce the size of the ulcer, honey also shields the area from infection.

Baking Soda Paste:

 Baking Soda Paste : Take equal quantities of baking soda, and water. Mix them together and make an extremely dense paste. Apply the paste on the mouth ulcer and allow it to dry. When the paste has dried, wash the mouth thoroughly with clean water, and gargle also. It is recommended to do this at least three times a  day.

Coconut Oil: 

Coconut Oil: Rub a small amount of coconut oil on the area of the ulcer and allow it to remain there. coconut oil has antimicrobial properties that help to reduce ulcers naturally and it also reduces the pain caused due to mouth ulcers.

Saltwater

Mix one teaspoon of salt into a glass of lukewarm water. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with the solution. Then, you can gargle using regular water to remove the salty taste from your mouth. This method will allow you to relieve some of the discomfort and pain of a mouth ulcer.

Toothpaste

 Toothpaste with antimicrobial properties is effective in reducing pain and swelling caused by mouth ulcers. Apply the toothpaste using your finger to the entire ulcer area. Let the paste sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off. The toothpaste can be applied every day until the ulcer’s whiteness disappears. The pain of applying toothpaste can make this challenging.

Orange Juice

The best treatment to treat mouth ulcers would be drinking at least two glasses of freshly squeezed juice of oranges throughout the day.

Clove Oil

In case of mouth ulcers, take a small piece of cotton and apply the oil directly to the ulcer. Wait till the ulcer tissue absorbs the oil.

Remember to rinse your mouth with warm water prior to the application of the clove oil. This will clean up the surface of the ulcer region.

Coconut Milk

Gargle with coconut milk when you are suffering from mouth ulcers. It is one of the most effective cures for mouth ulcer.Repeat this process 3 to 4 times a day,you will feel a soothing effect and pain is also  reduced.

Turmeric Powder: 

Take a bit of turmeric powder and some water. Mix to form a thick paste. Apply this paste on the ulcers every morning and evening. Leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse it off properly. You should start noticing the difference immediately.

Turmeric is an antiseptic, fights with infections, turmeric is also effective in battling against the inflammation and pain from mouth ulcers. It has antimicrobial properties as well.

Garlic:

Take a piece of garlic, cut it in half and dab it on the ulcer spot for a minute or two. Then rinse your mouth properly to remove the smell of raw garlic from your breath. You can repeat this 2 to 3 times a day.
