Appendicitis is a medical condition where the appendix becomes inflamed and filled with pus, causing severe abdominal pain.

Laparoscopic Surgery for Permanent and Painless Treatment of Appendicitis

The appendix is a pouch-like structure attached at the start of the large intestine that has no known purpose.

Appendicitis begins with fever and pain near the belly button and then moves toward the lower-right side of the abdomen. This is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fever, and chills.

Diagnosis

The doctor will review the patient’s medical history, especially any digestive illnesses MediCub Expert examines your symptoms, examine your abdomen, and see if the pain gets worse when they press on the area around your appendix (the lower right-hand side of your abdomen).

If you have the typical symptoms of appendicitis, your doctor will usually be able to make a confident diagnosis.

If your symptoms are not typical, further tests may be needed to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other conditions.

You may have
  • Blood test to look for signs of infection
  • Pregnancy test for women
  • Urine test to rule out other conditions, such as a bladder infection
  • Ultrasound scan to see if the appendix is swollen
  • CT scan

Surgery

Appendectomy Surgery

An appendectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix. It’s a common emergency surgery that’s performed to treat appendicitis, an inflammatory condition of the appendix. The appendix is a small, tube-shaped pouch attached to your large intestine. It’s located on the lower right side of your abdomen.

Laparotomy Surgery

In open surgery, a single larger cut is made on the lower right-hand side of the abdomen to remove the appendix. When there’s a widespread infection of the inner lining of the abdomen (peritonitis), it’s sometimes necessary to operate through a cut along the middle of the abdomen. This procedure is called a laparotomy.

Laparoscopic Surgery

The surgeon uses a laparoscope to remove the appendix through a small cut on the belly. The tube, camera, and tools are put in through the incisions and the surgeon does the surgery while looking at a TV monitor. It is minimally invasive and can be done in 2-3 days with minimal scar and wounds.
