Tonsillectomy

Day Surgery To Get Permanent Relief From Adenoids Problem

Tonsillectomy is the surgical removal of the tonsils, two oval-shaped pads of tissue at the back of the throat — one tonsil on each side.

Tonsillectomy

A tonsillectomy was once a common procedure to treat infection and inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis). Today, a tonsillectomy is usually performed for sleep-disordered breathing but may still be a treatment when tonsillitis occurs frequently or doesn’t respond to other treatments. A tonsillectomy may also be necessary to treat breathing and other problems related to enlarged tonsils and to treat rare diseases of the tonsils.

Complications of enlarged tonsils

Tonsils may become enlarged after frequent infections, or they may be naturally large. A tonsillectomy may be used to treat the following problems caused or complicated by enlarged tonsils:

Causes

Symptoms

Diagnosis

Tonsillitis can be diagnosed by a physical examination of the throat through an endoscopy test. Doctors also. Other ways of Diagnosis will be:-

✓ Using a lighted instrument to look at the patient’s throat and likely his or her ears and nose, which also may be sites of infection

✓ Checking for a rash known as scarlatina, which is associated with some cases of strep throat

✓ Gently feel (palpating) your child’s neck to check for swollen glands (lymph nodes)

✓ Listening to his or her breathing with a stethoscope

✓ Checking for enlargement of the spleen (for consideration of mononucleosis, which also inflames the tonsils)

✓ If tonsillitis is caused by a bacterial infection, Experts will prescribe a course of antibiotics to the patient.

Surgery

Surgery to remove tonsils (tonsillectomy) may be used to treat frequently recurring tonsillitis, chronic tonsillitis, or bacterial tonsillitis that doesn’t respond to antibiotic treatment. Treatment is not necessary in the case of mild or acute tonsillitis, especially when it is due to a cold. Simple home remedies will work. However, if the condition is severe,

Tonsillectomy is prescribed. It is a surgical procedure for treating chronic tonsillitis where the surgeon removes the tonsils from the upper throat.
